The message of my Book, For Goodness Sake, Let’s Talk Sugar is becoming quite a talking point and I was invited by OWN (older women’s network) to talk at the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Foundation on August 16, 2023, to a prestigious group of over 25 women. There were a lot of questions about how Sugar is represented in the community and the media and why Sugar has such a bad press when it is so important to our survival. The important interaction between carbon dioxide, sugar and the sequestration of carbon by plants in the context of climate change brought about a lot of discussion over morning tea.
This is a photo of me with the group and showing off the book that they bought.
The Foundation is an important representation of our indigenous people who, for many thousands of years looked after the land and so it was most appropriate to have this topic discussed on their land. They may not have known the chemical formula for sugar but they could appreciate the sweetness of fruits in season.
